The Austrian Railway Group Railway Models
This section is in the early stages of development and will be extended over the coming months.
Many of our members have an interest in modelling Austrian
railways. This
section attempts to give you more information
on that site of the group and help
you build your own Austrian
collection.
It is not a replacement for the manufacturer's catalogues,
but can help you track down where to find an elusive model.

We start with ARG members own layouts.

Bad Holzshofen an ÖBB diorama in HO

A station diorama based on Salzkammergut
line practice and architecture. It models
the central part of a typical
three loop passing station with goods
shed and station building. Measuring
just 1 metre x 40cms. It was built initially
for diesel operation but
may see wires erected in due course.
Both buildings, based on photos
of buildings on the Salzkammergut
line,are scratchbuilt using
card as the basis for the walls
and roofs. The platforms were also built
using 3mm card, painted with acrylics.
Trees are a mixture of Heki
poplars, Architrees (of Chicago,
USA) conifers and deciduous trees
and K & M tall poplars. Undergrowth,
window boxes and roses in the station garden
and grass cover uses Heki, Busch, Noch, Set Scenes
and Woodland Scenics products.

Langensee an ÖBB diorama in HO

This diorama measures 48” x 16” was built as a test piece for scenic
materials that are new to me. It also provides a photographic backdrop to
frame my Austrian outline rolling stock. (diesel locomotive is a 2143 by Klein Modellbahn).
The trees are a mixture of Heki conifers with added scatter material,
Architrees products from Chicago and Woodlands Scenics Fine Leaf Foliage.
Undergrowth and grass cover includes Silifor, Heki, Busch, Noch, Set Scenes,
Woodland Scenics products.
The stream and pond have been made from Woodland Scenics Realistic Water
(stock number C1211). The pond shape was made from Mod Roc plaster
impregnated cloth. The floor of the pond was painted with a variety of
acrylics and then ten thin layers of the Realistic Water poured on and left
for 24 hours to dry.
