The Austrian Railway Group
Rail Museums

Museum is a difficult word. One meaning that we all understand is a "place with old things", so the ARG's museums section shows sites where old railway items are kept. Some are beautiful buildings with well maintained displays, others may just be a line of lonely equipment rusting slowly away in the rain.

We don't attempt to list every item present, partly because others have done so at the link shown, partly because things on wheels can move!

Using the disused colliery yard, OGEG have a large number of steam, diesel and electric locos here as well as a small works building. Long term plans include a turntable and lokschuppe. By 2004, work had been ciompleted on a new train shed, and clearing in preparatuion for the turntable and lokschuppe had begun. pIt serves as one terminus of the summer steam specials to Trimmelkam. In 2006 with the lokschuppe completed and the old colliery building converted, a spectacular Kohl und Dampf exhibition was held.

Tauernbahn museum
Schwarzach
im Pongau

The Tauernbahn Museum, beside the station at Schwazach St. Veit, partially opened in 2003, is expected to be complete in time for the 100th anniversary of the Tauernbahn opening to Badgastein. It tells the story of the Tauernbahn, its electrification, and the current remodelling. Upstairs a large OO gauge model railway of part of the route has been started. In the main hall are working signalling & electrical equipment displays, a reconstruction of a ticket office, the cab of 1020.28, and a driving simulation based in the former cab of a 1110 loco.
The museum is opens from May to October on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, and from 10 am on Sundays. A 1245 sits outside in snow.
