Bad Kissen

Bad Kissen is a small Austrian station close to the German border. There is as in many Austrian villages, a small sawmill and timber handling facility all set in front of the town centre..

The layout is in H0 scale (16.5mm gauge track scale 1:87) and measuresd about 8 ft x 1.5 ft. The track depicts a country terminues served by extensive hidden sidings.

Bad Kissen has featured in both the ARG Journal and in European Railways & Modelling.

The scenics are particularly good and include

  • 3 track (2 track loop) branch terminus station
  • a fine village square
  • goods yard

the track is Peco Streamline and the layout uses a single controller.

Stock used varies depending on the operators, but may include

  1. visiting German VT98 railbuses
  2. ÖBB Desiro diesel units
  3. freight hauled by ÖBB 2043 diesel locomotives

The layout is based on Epoch 4/5.

Bad Kissen’s History & Future Plans

Completed in 2005 and made first appearance at Stockport MRC Exhibition, as well as an ARG Open Day at Risley, and the Warrington MRC Show in 2006. This brought the appearances to a total of seven at end 2006. Future shows are on the ARG exhibitions page.

Layout dimensions and structure
The layout consists of a 1.5m by .5 scenic board.
There is a fiddle yard (1.1m by .5) that is attached at one end, giving a length of 8.5 feet.
Minimum space required for layout and operators, including front access is 4m by 2m.
The layout rests on its own trestles
The rail height is 3 feet 6 inches from the ground.
Power required 1 x 13 amp socket
Lighting: Layout has own lighting (if required)
No. of operators (for lunches/accomodation) : minimum 2, ideally 3 for breaks.
Furniture required: The layout is self contained. but 2 operator's chairs and a table for stock would be appreciated.

Transport costs: This layout can be transported in our member's own vehicle and trailer. Expenses of 15p/mile are requested.,
Home location : CW8
Willing to travel : up to 60 miles
Parking requirements : car
Time required: Approximately 60 minutes for setting up; approx 60 minutes for dismantling.
