The Austrian Railway Group : Funiculars in Austria

Zauchensee by Gamskogel Gipfel

Also known as Weltcup Express and Salzburger Sportwelt For the 2000 World Cup, the Zauchensee authorities installed a 6-person automatic shuttle funicular, the "Weltcup Express". A similar model to the funicular installed at Burg Güssing, the installation was manufactured and installed by Doppelmayr, being one of the "CrossLiner" series of products. The 700mm-gauge rails are carried on concrete stretchers, raised above ground level. Technically and inclined elevator rather than a true funicular, the Weltcup Express is completely unmanned, being "called" by a user at either station. The line is 131 metres long, rising 72 metres on an average gradient of 33%. The endless cable is 15mm thick, and the motor winds the cable at 1.5 metres / second. The lift has a capacity of 92 people/hour. Due to the location, ARG members have not so far visited the funicular, and photographs come from the manufacturers.
