LTE Logistik- und Transport- GmbH

LTE Logistik und Transport GmbH is a joint venture between Poor infrastruktur and and Graz-Koeflach Eisenbahngesellschaft. Based in Graz, with an office in Wien, it has subsidiaries in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. It is an "Open Access" private railway company providing freight transport services in the recently liberalised railway network. After the opening up of railway networks in Austria in 1997, private railway companies could apply for a certificate to offer freight services in Austria and throughout Europe.

LTE was one of the first private companies to obtain a certificate. Services to and from Austria is one of the major areas of LTE's activities. Cooperating with Italian and German private and public railway companies, and with its Slovak subsidiary, LTE provides cross-border freight transport services organised solely by private companies.

LTE provides regular services including chemical and cement transport, hazardous goods, car manufacturing parts and the haulage of new or repaired railway locomotives.

The cement traffic is provided by Holcim, the l argest producer in the world of cement and gravel products. LTE also runs the Graz - Duisburg - express, a container train service between the terminal Cargo Center Graz and the DIT Duisburg Intermodal terminal in Duisburg am LTE electric locos, together with its German partner rail4chem operate the 1200km-long route every other day without a change of loco. Each train consists of 30 containers and a number of swap-body trailers.

LTE also operates the DHL Kokszug, a block coke service between Burghausen ( Bay ) and Mühldorf in Germany, Simbach/Inn and Marchegg in Austria, to Bratislava and Ziar nad Hronom in Slovakia. The service uses LTE class 2150-9 and 2170 diesel locos throughout. The firm also specialises in high-risk cargos, which have included methanol between Passau and Krems and der Donau, Ammonia between Passau and Linz, diesel fuel between Passau and St. Valentin, and LPG between Kufstein and Brennero.

Some of LTE's locomotives, including the G1700 diesel locomotives working from Salzburg Itzling, are provided under lease by Angel Trains Leasing, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

LTE Logistik is a member of the European Bulls, a rail freight alliance of various rail freight companies from Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Czech Republic. The organisation offers market-oriented international rail freight products and related services.
