The Austrian Railway Group : Surviving Steam Locomotives
Wiener Lokomotivfabrik WLF : Floridsdorf Werke

Inspired by Dieter Zoubek's book, this page presents a gallery of the Floridsdorf manufactured locomotives which our members have photographed over the years. The factory was known by several names over the years, and built its last steam locomotives in 1972 when a fourth fireless loco was provided to OMV.

The last fully functioning steam engine to be built at Floridsdorf. Schöller-Bleckmann Werke of Murzzuschlag's Neue is at OGEG Amplfwang. The only later builds with steam power were fireless locos for OMV, and some exports for South Asia. Photo Ron Ferguson 2001

Amongst the earliest Floridsdorf locos remaining are the Achenseebahn's locomotives, where with extensive rebuilding No 1, 2 and 3 remain in service, and components from the former 704 are in 2004 being used (in 2004/5) to create a new locomotive, No 4.

Taken over by Henschel in 1938, WLF rapidly moved into Kriegslok production. These two organisations produced 1271 and 1192 respectively of the huge 6356 total. In less than 20 months, WLF averaged 54 per month, with over 80 in some months. Alongsde this production of BR 52s, WLF also turned out batches of BR 42,44 and 50, equally large 2-10-0s.
