The Austrian Railway Group
Marklin Hamo Trix

Two of Europe and Germany's oldest model railway companies recently merged and rebranded their ranges. Both have a history of extensive ranges of German prototypes and this bias continues today. Nevertheless there are a few models of Austrian prototypes available under both labels.

Caution is recommended when older Märklin models are being considered – the ‘Hamo’ HO range was for two rail operation DC (gleichstrom) while the mainstream HO Märklin product is for 3 rail AC (wechselstrom). Trix models are all for 2 rail operation.

Märklin offer models in gauges 1, HO & Z while Trix offer HO & N scales

HO Models of Austrian locomotives from Märklin & Trix have included:-

  • Steam: Cl 52, 55, 86, 659
  • Electric: Cl 1016, 1043, 1141
  • Diesel: Cl 2065, 2070
Recently ‘Semmering 150 Anniversary’ commemorative sets of Era 3 Austrian freight wagons have been issued by Märklin & Trix to complement their models of the Cl 659.
