The Austrian Railway Group
Rivarossi

In the 1990s this Italian company was absorbed into the Arnold/Lima/Jouef group, but trading difficulties continued and in 2003 the combined company was liquidated. In 2004 Hornby acquired some of the Lima assets with a view to continuing production of European models in China. For news of progress there was at 19 January 2004, a Hornby a press releases

The main interest in Rivarossi for Austrian modellers lies in the excellent HO scale range of CIWL coaches that can be used to model the famous luxury trains that ran through Austria such as the Orient Express.

Also, just before their demise, Rivarossi produced a model of the Class 1040 electric: versions for Eras 3, 4 & 5 were produced – some are quite rare.
An earlier Rivarossi product for Austria was a ÖBB Cl 789 (ex-R 3/3 Bay), while around 1990 Rivarossi produced an excellent model of BBÖ (Ex DR) Class 59/ÖBB Class 659; a 2-12-0 used mainly for banking duties over the Semmering Pass.
