ÖBB Class 399 Mh.

Originally a class of six locomotives, built for the Mariazellerbahn in succession to the smaller U class tanks. They operated their last regular revenue earning trains in the Waldviertae mainly on freight. Immediately prior to and since formal withdrawal, they operate across all the Austrian narrow gauge routes on special trains.

All were built by Krauss at their Linz Works in two batches 4 in 1906 amd two in 1908.

Operated on the Pinzgaubahn in the 1990s on weekly steam specials Zell am See to Krimml.

Delivered as NOLB 51, 1908 to NOLB Mh.2, 1922 BBO Mh.2, 1938 DRB 99 1112 OStb 99 1112 1945, OBB 399.02, then 399 002 Operated the steam speacials on the Ybbstalbahn until removed to Gmünd where it was stored, and may have been cannibalised for repairs to sister locos in the early 2000s.

Operated on the Ybbstalbahn on steam specials durring the 1990.
In early 2003 began major overhaul by ÖBB at Gmünd Depot.

The first of the final pair, 005 is owned by the WSV and stored in poor condition outside their depot at Heidenrechstein with other locos.

After formal withdrawal. 006 was entrusted to Club Mh6 who have restored it to its former glory at Ober Grafendorf depot. It operates on a frequent but irregular basis on the Mariazellerbahn. Photo feature in steam
