ÖBB Class 598 Yv.

Only three of these were built and all three still survive (at 2006). They were designed and served most of their life on the Ybbstalbahn.

All were built by Krauss at their Linz Works as 3356/57/58 in 1896.

Worked on Steyrtalbahn 1946 to 1948.
Withdrawn 3 February 1962.
Plinthed at Waidhofen an der Ybbs station. Subsequently transferred to Treibach-Althofen (Gurkthalbahn). Transferred (in exchange for 298.25) and plinthed in Eichgraben town centre, in the Wienerwald (at 2005).

From 1962 to 1966 worked on Waldvierteler Schmalspurbahn
Withdrawn 1973 and bought by Club 598 (50-80,000 Ös for both 598.02 and 598.03). Reconstruction followed, and loco was returned to service in October 1979. Loco was overhauled January – 31 July 2004. In service, on Ybbstalbahn (2006).

Stopped for repairs 1962 (on Ybbstalbahn) and transported to Gmünd (Waldviertalbahn) for repairswhich were never done before formal withdrawal in 1964. Kept at Gmünd until 1974, when 598.02 and 598.03 were sold as scrap to Club 598, for As 50-80,000ÖS. Moved to the group headquarters at Waidhofen
Used as a donor machine to help repair 598.02. Left in the station yard, Waidhofen (Lokalbahn). In 1996 the remains were inspected, and it was decided that the loco could be rebuilt. Frames and cylinders were re-assembled in 1999. Boiler and firebox to be renewed. Under reconstruction at Waidhofen an der Ybbs (2006).
