ÖBB had a single example of a 760mm narrow gauge snowblower (98.620 rebuilt 1967) which for most of its subsequent working life was based on St Pölten (left), where in 1987 Jim Davidson photographed it.

Originally built and used for the Schneebergbahn, it was rebuilt and regauged using parts from Bi/s 3726 (BBÖ 503, MZ 255). Operating weight is given as 8.8 tonnes. By 2005, it had been retired, and lay in the NÖLB yard at Kienberg Gaming (right). A 2nd metre gauge example (98.610) was on the Puchberg line.

Although we describe it as a snowblower, it is also described Felsinger's Der Mariazellerbahn as a Schneeschleuder (Snow sling) and by Schober in his Der Mariazellerbahn im Modell as Schneefräse (Snow mill).
