The route starts in Wels at the Hbf and briefly follows the Westbahn, then turning south and climbing through the edge of the town, over the river and out on to farmland before running through open fields to Sasseldt. From there the line curves through rolling country to Pettenbach after which it enters the narrow wooded valley and climbs to Grünau.

	Wels Lokalbahn in western Wels, bounded by four roads. A typical three track loop with head shunts at both end for freight.
	Before the sattion at the level crossing is a short siding serving Heimbucher Transporte GMBH. Schauersberg Single track/platform with shelter just above the road.

	Großendorf Single track/platform/shelter in village. recently refurbished. Siding opposite platform.
	Wiesmühle b.Sattledt Well off the beaten track, but set on a high embankment on a bridge, single track, platform and shelter.
	Voitsdorf Three track loop station in valley where main road crosses. There was a haltstelle at Moos which is now closed.
	Wilfling Single track/platform./shelter in countryside
	Diensthubersiedlung recntly build at edge of village with single track/platform/shelter.
	Pettenbach OÖ Three track loop station, with freight siding alongside. Immediately past level corssing on main road.
	There was a haltstelle at Heiligenleithen which is now closed. Steinbachbrücke Single track/platform and closed station building about 400m from the eponymous bridge.
	Viechtwang Single track/single platform, and sheltered area in front of former station now converted. Siding to north end for building material.
	Scharnstein-Mühldorf Well below the crossing road bridge, and by the river, the station has three tracks and a small yard.

	Traxenbichl Shelter only at north end of a three track loop.
	Grünau im Almtal ornate station with large verandah area. Disused depot. Absolute terminus of the line with island platform and three loop tracks. A fourth track served the depot.

Video clips

The line is very photogenic, with opportunities for both close up and distant shots. Wide panning video is possible in the northern plain areas, while the final distance provides spectacular backdrops. Wels Hbf is a good location for local and mainline services, and remember the Almtalbahn has a very limited service, especially on non workdays.
