The metre-gauge Attergaubahn, run by Stern und Hafferl, is a 13.4 km long light railway, linking the lakeside town of Attersee and the ÖBB main Westbahn at Vöcklamarkt. Outside the S&H terminus at Vöcklamarkt is a triangle, used to deliver goods traffic from the branch to various factories around the triangle. Wood is now the only goods traffic in any quantity, the line no longer carrying fertiliser, or beer in a specially-built Zipf refrigerated tanker pulled by one of the tram-type vehicles.

At the lake end of the line, Attersee station is on the opposite side of the tracks to the loco shed, with track going through to the hedge which conceals the station from the road. Until the 1990's when the road layout was changed, the tracks led a further 0.5 km to the landing stage on the Attersee, and was used for goods traffic. Today ships - also operated by S&H - take visitors around the lake from Weyregg to Schörfling, Seewalchen and Attersee, but it was originally intended that the railway line would be part of a much larger system. Originally it was planned to build the "Voralpenbahn", a line linking Reid im Innkreis with Vöcklamarkt, and thence to Attersee. An electrically-powered train ferry would cross the lake, and a further section of railway would then link Weyregg with Gmünden and the Gmünden Straßenbahn. This would then connect to other railways all the way to Linz.

The line is owned by ÖBB, but run by S&H using a collection of light railway cars from the Swiss railways AOMC (now TPC), BLT, and VBW. The line also possesses a collection of older vehicles, used to provide a "nostalgic" service during the Summer. This train, which has power cars at both ends, often includes a buffet car of 1914 vintage, and a power car built in 1907. The special children's car is also used for summer specials.

For lazy modellers, this haltstelle should help your efforts.
