Florianerbahn

The 4.7km long Florianerbahn opened in 1887, as an independent tramway serving small villages to the south-west of the city of Linz. Never very profitable, it was run for many years by Stern und Hafferl, but improvements to roads in the area in the 1960's saw the line struggle in the face of bus competition. It finally closed to passenger traffic in 1974, but was not removed, simply mothballed. It was been partly reopened, in stages, from the monastery town of St. Florian as far as Pichling See, in 1982. Further work is to see the line re-extended back to Ebelsberg.

Services are run on Sundays and Public Holidays between May Day and the end of September. The depot is on the stretch of line in St. Florian where there is a small historic collection. The line is to be reconnected to the Linz tramway system at Ebelsberg to enable through running. Presntly (2003) Closely associated with OGEG, the Western end of the route disappears under the tar of the main road near Pochling.

The Florianerbahn also offer a Technical Service to other tramways in Europe, providing planning and maintenance services.
